The humanitarian mine clearance machine RM-KA-02 is developed and produced by ĐĐ Special vehicles ltd. It is a 14.5 t tracked vehicle, protected from the blasts by the 10 mm steel armor plate ARMOX. The RM-KA-02's radio-controlled system was developed to clear even the thickest vegetation and to safely detonate any type of antitank and antipersonnel mines in outlaying areas otherwise inaccessible by larger demining machines. The operator is equipped with a remote system controller. The RM-KA-01 imperfections observed on-field were successfully eliminated in the RM-KA-02 design by introducing the more powerful Perkins diesel engine, a 2000 mm wide flail and a reliable remote-controlling subsystem enabling a working range of up to 800 meters. The blast and ricochet resistance technology was also applied to the chassis and protects both the driving engine and the hydraulics. The system consists of a standard, easily replaceable prefabricated armor, which can be quickly removed when the flail is being maintained or another standard material or sweeping tool is being mounted. The clearance speed higher than 1800 m²/h puts the machine side by side to large demining vehicles.
The clearance technology
The engine turns 36 chains mounted on the winch at up to 600 rpm. On the chains there are mushroom-like hammers made of high-quality steel forgings. As the machine drives through a minefield at 0.3 – 1.2 km/h the flail destroys or detonates antipersonnel and antitank mines. The system enables work at a depth of more than 250 mm.
